2001 the Culture and Economy Exchange Activity with China was carried out. He was hired as the visiting professor of Confucius Culture University.

Japan saw the 21st century, with no exit from the prolonged depression. We often hear the word of "What the 21st century will be." in the present society which is filled with the feeling of uneasiness and blockade.
In many cases, Japanese people like to ask , "What (How) will anything be?" , for example, "How will business be?", "How will sales be?", "How will the weather be?".Setting aside the question of the weather, the motion of society can be changed by man's power. Therefore, it is important not that "how will be", but that "what should we do". Only people's power can change the world and that is our great business idea.

Komatsu electric Industry is the so-called "venture company", started in 1973. We consider the venture company as "the company which builds up the new business model with the latest technologies and accelates the social change". So, we have thought how we should contribute to this society through our environmental business, and have developed our products.
A high-speed sheet shutter "MONBAN" is one of them, and it helps energy saving thanks to its high perfomance of protection against the cold and wind. This product was developed originally as the shutter for protecting factories against the cold winter in Sanin area, but now MONBAN has the 50% of the market share in Japan and it is used widely over the world, especially Korea.

We think that "MONBAN" is the product suitable for the venture company in the meaning of "creation of a market". " In the time of the shutter made from steel only, we developed the shutter made from vinyl, opening and closing at high speed, and produced the completely new market. Moreover, recently, this sheet shutter attracts attention especially in the food industry where food poisoning and alien substance are big problems, thanks to its high performance of protection against dust and insects.
"YAKUMO SUISHIN" is another main item, whose concept is "Management of Water". Owing to development of the airplane and spread of the Internet, the world has become very narrow. In the 21st century, Japan will exist not as one island country in the Far East but as one country in the world. Then, it will be "water" that the important keyward is.

Population will increase in the 21st century in a scale of the earth. Water is indispensable for the people to survive. Although the wars occurred over the "oil" all over the world in the 20th century, it is said that they will occur over the "water" in the 21st. And contamination of water is progressing not only Japan but all over the world now. There are two lakes, called Shinji Lake and Nakaumi, in Shimane, and they are not exceptions. Now people cannot swim there as they used to do once and the seafood such as the sea bass and shijimi clam is decreasing.

If such contamination is left, the danger that the dispute over the water will take place will increase. Under these circumstances, "YAKUMO SUISHIN" is developed by the way of thinking of supplying the cheap and safe water with IT, and on the other hand, returning it to its former state at a low cost.
We are putting power also into maintenance of the underground dam. This is the system which uses the rain water effectively by storing it in the basement of residential areas and the industrial complex. This system will be effective for preventntion of a river flood in case of heavy rain, simultaneously for preparation for the water shortage.

We are wishing that these products will help in solving the water problems in the 21st century. We are thinking about the role which Japan should play in the world, from human beings' history.

Management which puts weight on "Trust"

Komatsu electric Industry started with the capital of only 100,000 yen, and has grew up to the company with the capital of 100 million yen and the yearly turnover of 4,200 million yen in 2001. I regard such a success as the result of being thought highly of our management which puts weight on "trust".
The distance is not easy for us. When we started dealing with the company outside Shimane for the first time, we met the serious complaint that problems were found in all 30 sets which we had supplied. Still, we could get big trust through dealing with the complaint. And this trust has spread even to the subcontract companies, associated companes, and also deallers overseas, and, finally resulting in the sales of tens of billions yen. That was ,so called "turning a misfortune into a blessing". After that, we have been running the company by the pile of trust, making a mistake again and again. We think that our company today did not exsit unless "creation of trust" could not be existed.

Another secret of success was to be blessed with the partners. Many kinds of imitations of our sheet shutter have come out from other companes. However, nothing has been beyond "MONBAN" in respect of quality. The reason is that the excellent technology of the tie-up company is used in the engine part, which is a core of MONBAN. This engine was the special engine developed for cameras in Germany, and we think MONBAN can be developed thanks to this introduction of technological know-hows.

Various relationship is connected to the external people and companies which have the outstanding ideas and know-hows about other products and technologies. It is restricted that what only one company and one person can do is. Therefore, the way of thinking of "division of work" that people share their strong fields with one another is important, and this tendency will be increasing in the future as society complicate and develop.

Based on the way of thinking of "division of work", we are plannning to connect with people and companis with the outstanding capabilities by various networks. That is our aim and we will cut down the function of the head office. Instead, we are going to extend rapidly the network in and out of the country and give many chances of activity to the staffs by the spin-out.

From "Company" "to "Enterprise"

At the biginning, we were working in the barn of president's home.--It was just the "family business". Volume of work has been increasing gradually, the factory became larger and Komatsu Electric Industry has grown up to be a "company."
"Family business", which I consider, is the work done in order to maintain the family. And "company" is the profits supreme principle, that is, the pursuit of profits at the lowest cost and time.
It is "enterprise" that is the next step. "Enterprise" means the work which prepares the social environment where "family business" and "company" can fully enjoy prosperity.

It will be the peace that is the most important for Japan of the 21st century. Now, 70% of our food is imported from overseas. If it results in fuel, 100 % is supplied from overseas. By building such a life style, we have built up today's prosperity.
However, in order to be supplied with food and fuel stably, it is the most important for us to keep the peace. If these are no longer imported by colliding with foreign countries, Japan will be in confusion.

For present Japan, "peace" is the important problem which is not substituted for a mere empty slogan. And our country is the contamination country only in the world, and holds the peace constitution. We know nuclear misery better than people of any other country. -- therefore, we can appeal peace more positively.

The Komatsu electric Industry is evolving every day, adding the enterprise activity of "health" and "peace" to the business activity consisting mainly of "MONBAN" and "YAKUMO SUISHIN". It is switchover from the business which pursues only profits to the business which puts also maintenance of social environment into the view. As the parent body for that, "HNS -Human, Nature, and Science Research Institute-" were founded in 1994.

HNS Research Institute advocated the "One-Village- One-Ambition-Movement" immediately after its start, and then published the books which told the great men's great achievements, and "The Analects of Confucius" (which is the new edition and translated both Japanese and English). At this institute, peace promotion activities are performed through such publications and seminars.

Moreover, we have formulated a plan of building the "Peace Park" ,which appeals the importance of peace, in the 30ha land in Yonago-shi, Tottori, and we are now under preparation.
Furthermore, we are planning to sell the "pomegranate" growing on 100-year-old tree in Zao Zuang of China Shandong. While Zao Zuang is the No.1 producing district of pomegranate of the world ,authorized by Guinness Book of Records, it is the ground where anti-Japanese fighting was developed for the previous great war. This pomegranate sale is based on the monopoly contract with Zao Zuang, which means that HNS's activities have been accepted by Zao Zuang.

These activities of HNS Research Institute will be a source of new business and this business will lead to the new activities of HNS. Komatsu electric Industry and HNS Research Institute will develop the activities in the 21st century, aiming at the relation such as "the both wheels of a car."
